The Conjuring 2 will land in June 2016 - and it's currently up against Now You See Me 2 and Uncharted...
Regular listeners of the Kermode and Mayo radio show on BBC Radio Five Live will already know that the former regularly refers to films such as TheConjuring and Insidiousas "cattle prod horror." That they're based around build ups to a big jump, rather than trying to get under your skin in the way that movies such as The Babadook manage to.
There's little denying the success of such films though, and The Conjuring in particular took a summer release slot in 2013, and turned it into $318m at the worldwide box office (off a $20m production budget). Little wonder that The Conjuring 2 is happening (and we've already had one spin-off, Annabelle).
The original plan had been for The Conjuring 2 to arrive in 2015. However, Warner Bros revealed that the movie was being put back to 2016 the other week, and we now have an exact release date: June 10th 2016. In the US, at least.
The film will pick up the adventures of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's characters, and Chad and Carey Hayes have returned to write the script. Furthermore, James Wan, who's nearly done with Fast & Furious 7, is back to direct.
As things stand, The Conjuring 2 is scheduled against Now You See Me 2 and Uncharted.
