We still don't know who Daniel Bruhl is playing in Captain America: Civil War, but we know he's a bad guy...
The article contains spoilers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and potential spoilers for Captain America: Civil War.
Late last week, Marvel rather quietly (for them, at least) announced that Daniel Bruhl would be joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War. That's it. No word on his character, though. But a little more information has surfaced...
Now a bit more information has appeared, courtesy of Variety's Justin Kroll, who points out that yes, Mr. Bruhl is indeed playing a villain but "not [the] main one," before indicating that Crossbones (that would be Frank Grillo's Brock Rumlow who we met in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) is actually the big villain of the movie. As fans of the Ed Brubaker penned comics that inspired that film know, Crossbones has a fairly major role in the next logical chapter of the story that began there. Despite the title, it sounds like Captain America: Civil Waris going to be every bit an evolution of what we saw in the previous film, possibly moreso than an actual Civil War adaptation.
This still doesn't answer the question of who Daniel Bruhl is playing, though. We've heard he's also going to appear as a baddie in Doctor Strange. Some folks are speculating that he's Baron Zemo, although Zemo seems like a potential "major villain" rather than someone who would play second fiddle to Crossbones. I have my own suspicions, but that might take up a much longer article.
We'll get our answers when Captain America: Civil War arrives on May 6th, 2016. We have much more on what that movie means for the Marvel Cinematic Universe right here.
