Guillermo del Toro confirms that both Charlie Day and Burn Gorman will be back for the Pacific Rim sequel.
Guillermo del Toro's next feature film - now that his horror movie, Crimson Peak, is in the proverbial can - will be Pacific Rim 2. The movie is currently due in 2017, with an April 7th release date. And in a new interview with Collider, del Toro has been chatting a little about the project.
Specifically, he's confirmed that Burn Gorman and Charlie Day are both set to reprise their roles from the original Pacific Rim in this one. "It's quite a different movie from the first one," del Toro admitted, adding that "I think two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn and Charlie."
"They are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau [Mr Ron Perlman], so from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them."
Del Toro admitted too that he'd cast Burn Gorman in Crimson Peak"because I love working with him."
Pacific Rim 2 will be set a few years after the original movie, in a world that has been free of Kaiju. "What happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat?" del Toro teased. What happens indeed.
