Danish director Lars von Trier admits to struggles with drink and drugs, and questions his filmmaking future...

Danish director Lars von Trier, the man behind movies such as Melancholia, Dogville, Nymphomaniac, andBreaking The Waves, has admitted that his film making days may be at an end.

It came as part of an interview he gave to the Danish newspaper Politiken, where he opened up about the addictions that he's been battling. von Trier revealed that he'd been receiving support for alcohol and drug addiction, admitting that he had been drinking a bottle of vodka a day to allow him to enter a "parallel world" that was necessary for him to be creative.

Furthermore, he's voiced fears that, if he conquers his addictions, he'll only be able to make "shitty films."

In particular, von Trier said that "I don't know if I can make any more films and that worries me. There is no creative expression of artistic value that has ever been produced by ex-drunkards and ex-drug addicts."

Von Trier revealed too that writing Nymphomaniactook him 18 months, and that he'd written it whilst sober, whereas Dogvilletook him 12 days to write, when he wasn't.

We wish Mr von Trier all the best in battling his addictions. For anyone else struggling with drink, then Alcoholics Anonymous can be found here, whilst for those struggling with drugs, Drug Addicts Anonymous can be found here.
