Let the mystery come to an end! Andy Serkis is the voice in that Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer!
When the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer emerged on Friday, there was much online chatter about the voice we heard over its galactic imagery.
"There has been an awakening," the voice rumbled. "Have you felt it?"
Our first reaction was that it sounded quite a lot like Benedict Cumberbatch's ominous tones from Star Trek Into Darkness' trailers last year - and given that JJ Abrams directed that film as well as the forthcoming Episode VII, many people concurred. Others suggested that the voice over might have been supplied by Max Von Sydow, or Adam Driver, who are both reportedly playing villains in The Force Awakens.
It was also said - by HitFixwriter Drew McWeeny, for one - that the voice over was in fact made by Andy Serkis, though there was nothing to officially confirm that. Serkis is also in The Force Awakens, in an as-yet unidentified role.
On the TV show Good Morning America, it was confirmed by their entertainment reporter that Andy Serkis really is the voice on the teaser. And given that Good Morning America is broadcast by the ABC, which is owned by Disney, they're probably party to a little more inside information than most.
Now we're just left to ponder who exactly Andy Serkis will play in The Force Awakens...
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out on December 18th, 2015.
