The film of Ernest Cline's book, Ready Player One, has reportedly been offered to Christopher Nolan to direct...

Now this could be fun. As we've said more than one on this site, Ernest Cline's novel Ready Player One is well worth a look. It tells of a future world, where a teenage boy goes on a virtual treasure hunt, to try and unlock the fortune of the man who was behind a huge virtual reality game called Oasis. Thing is, that treasure hunt requires knowledge of how to beat an assortment of 1980s videogames to complete. And to say the book was dripping in nerdy details would be significantly underselling it.

Most recently onReady Player One, screenwriter Zak Penn had talked about adapting Cline's book for the screen, and about working in tandem with the author to do so. Unsurprisingly, there are some rights issues to hurdle.

Now, however, we learn that Warner Bros has apparently offered the project to Christopher Nolan to direct.

The Tracking Boardsays that Nolan has received an offer from Warner Bros to take Ready Player One on, but of course that's a long way away from Nolan accepting. It's thus far unclear what Christopher Nolan's next project will be, post-Interstellar, and we guess we just wait and see if he's tempted by the chance to bringReady Player One to the screen.

It strikes us as a bit of a long shot - we'd imagine that Warner Bros offers pretty much anything it has that's vaguely interesting to Nolan - but we'll keep you posted....
