The disaster movie is back with San Andreas, a new flick where Dwayne Johnson in a helicopter won’t be the only rock flying through the air.
As seen in the new preview, Warner Bros. is hoping the disaster movies of the 1970s and 1990s are ready to return for its 20-year revival in pop culture devastation. This time it’s back in the form of the San Andreas fault, which hasn’t been so imploded by film since Chuck Heston (or at least perhaps Christopher Reeve) saved the day.
In San Andreas, the big one finally hits when an earthquake with a nine-magnitude threatens to drop most of the West Coast into the sea. An LA rescue helicopter pilot (Johnson) will be forced to partner with his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) to save their only daughter (Alexandra Daddario) who’s trapped in San Francisco. But little do they realize that the worst isn’t over…it’s just getting started.
Johnson collaborator Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) directs the film, which also stars Kylie Minogue, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, and Paul Giamatti.
