Watch the new trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's The Walk, a Robert Zemeckis film about the man who walked across the World Trade Center.
If you’ve seen Man on Wire, then you already know the miraculous story of Philippe Petit, the man who dared to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. And you also know that it has all the stuff to make a terrific drama as well.
Director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) has teamed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt with what appears to be every intention of reclaiming the beauty and grandeur of Minoru Yamasaki’s design of the World Trade Center. Often remembered now for the horrible tragedy that engulfed the buildings in flames and horror, nearly 30 years prior they were a wonder of the world. And that’s exactly what grabbed the attention of Petit and a number of colleagues who one morning climbed the towers for an amazing stunt: he’d walk across the buildings on a wire, 1,350 feet in the air.
Chances are you know how the story ends, but Zemeckis wants to make it every bit the spectacle it can be, promising an event film shot in 3D with a planned IMAX 3D release in its future.
The Walk begins October 2, 2015.
