Orlando Bloom talks Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, calling it a reboot of sorts for the franchise.

Despite the fourth and most recent Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, making $1 billion worldwide in 2011, it’s been almost four years since that film. Now, we’re hearing rumblings that the still forthcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales may also be a (soft) reboot of the franchise.

While chatting with IGN, Orlando Bloom discussed Pirates of the Caribbean 5, which he has been expected to return in for some time. He admitted that the talks are still ongoing and he isn’t sure yet if he’ll be back, but he did have some intriguing insight into the fifth swig of rum.

“Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think” Bloom said. “And do something with me and the relationship with my son… I’m of course Davy Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly.”

The interesting tidbit here, besides learning that Jack Turner’s beautiful mug may not be so pretty in the next Pirates film, is that it appears that Disney wants a new lease on life…and perhaps a new trilogy? Maybe Brenton Thwaites, who was cast in the film, will be playing the child of Bloom and Keira Knightley’s characters all grown up?

We’ll likely know closer to the July 7, 2017 release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
