Adult animation "classic" Fire and Ice is getting a live-action adaptation, courtesy of Robert Rodriguez.
In the early '80s, it seemed that the realm of "animation for adults" was about to become a thing in the US. Japan had already caught on. The US wasn't ready. Hence we had the well-known Heavy Metal, and the far less well-known barbarian fantasy Fire and Ice.
Now, Sony Pictures, perhaps looking for films with antagonists that aren't tin-shit dictators with an army of hacker trolls at their disposal, have tapped Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Til Dawn, Sin City, etc) to adapt Fire and Ice in non-animated form. The original film (which we wrote a bit about here) was from the minds of animation great Ralph Bakshi and illustrator/legend Frank Frazetta.
Rodriguez says that "We’re actively interviewing to hire A-list writers to do another pass to get this going next year. I’m excited." He says lots more about the project and his admiration for Frank Frazetta over at Deadline.
