With Justin Lin coming on as the new director for the next Star Trek movie, Roberto Orci's script is out the airlock.
Things haven't been boring on the Star Trek front in recent weeks, have they? For a film that was about to begin production, with Roberto Orci in place to direct from his own screenplay, there have been plenty of shakeups. First, Mr. Orci stepped away from directing duties (to be replaced by Fast & Furiousdirector Justin Lin), but now it looks like he's off scripting duties as well.
This comes from Mr. Orci himself, who has a habit of engaging with fans over on the TrekMovie forums, where he now describes his role in Star Trek 3 as "producing, nothing more or less." Does this mean that Paramount are back to square one on this movie? If so, that's not particularly encouraging. I also can't help but wonder how Paramount is going to feel about a producer on an embattled franchise chatting on message boards about the project's status...
Barring further complications, we should see Star Trek 3 on July 8th, 2016.
