Mark Wahlberg is aiming to get a Boardwalk Empire movie off the ground, and is eyeing Martin Scorsese to direct.
Now that the television run of Boardwalk Empire is complete (and panic not, this article is spoiler-free), one of its producers has revealed that the next target is to take the acclaimed show to the movies.
Chatting to NJ, Mark Wahlberg (yep, that one) said of Boardwalk Empire that "my next goal is now to get the movie made, and start talking to Martin Scorsese about directing it". We wouldn't write off his chances there, either. Martin Scorsese has been an executive producer on Boardwalk Empire across its run, and he also directed the acclaimed pilot episode as well.
That's some way from the film actually happening of course, but Wahlberg continues to get movies greenlit. Also, he oversaw the TV show Entourage, and that makes its movie debut later this year. Scorsese's name alone should grease a few more wheels.
Given the success of the TV show, don't be surprised if - schedules permitting - things start moving properly on a Boardwalk Empire film this year.
