Phil Lord and Chris Miller reveal what the set-up will be for the upcoming The Lego Batman Movie. And it's not apparently darkness.
NewsOf all the popular superheroes in our oversaturated culture right now, one above all others is renowned for his shadowed darkness: Batman. “Dark” is even the title of his two most popular films!
Yet, it appears that for one of the next upcoming Batman movies—no not the Ben Affleck one—this apparent prerequisite is being challenged. Can Bruce Wayne be happy? That’s the set-up for The Lego Batman Movie.
While chatting with MTV, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are executive producers on the film and who wrote-directed The Lego Movie, posited this very question.
Lord said, “I think the movie is really exciting, because it’s about ‘can Batman be happy?’” He continued, “‘Wah, I’m so rich and handsome, and women like me, and I’ve got a Maclaren! Something about my parents!’”
Call us interested. Do not get me wrong, as I think The Dark Knight Trilogy is brilliant (yes, all three), but only certain storytellers can tackle the potential nihilism of a creature like the Joker or the corruption of Gotham City and come up with a refined and revealing cultural parable. And after three pictures, it’s nice to have variety as opposed to going even deeper into the Frank Miller Batcave.
We’ll keep you posted as we approach The Lego Batman Movie, due out in theaters on May 26, 2017.
