NewsIf you asked me this time last year if I wanted to see a movie about a South African slang chatting robot played by Sharlto Copley and hanging out with Die Antwoord….well I probably would have said hell yes then too. But the point is that I, nor probably yourself, knew something so potentially wonderful could exist in this world. But here it is with the name Chappie.
The latest film from director Neill Blomkamp looks to give Copley a role that may finally take advantage of his untapped talent with the titular Chappie: a robot stolen by a new dysfunctional family of criminals and idealists played by Watkin Tudor Jones, Yo-Landi Visser, and Dev Patel. He was taken from a military industrial complex represented by Hugh Jackman. It also has Hollywood science fiction’s seeming seal of approval in Sigourney Weaver. This has to be better than Elysium, right?
Chappie opens March 6, 2015.
