Taken 3 has overcome savage reviews to become a sizeable hit. Liam Neeson now sounds like he's up for Taken 4...
News"It ends here" booms the tagline on the poster to the thoroughly shitty yet hugely successful Taken 3. With over $40m banked in the US alone over the weekend, the Liam Neeson-headlined series shows no sign of running out of proverbial steam. And it seems that Taken 4 may yet be on the cards.
Back in March 2011, writer/producer Luc Besson told us that "we'll stop at two," adding that "I don't think we'll go like Transporter, for example, with two, three and four."
Right.
Then, of course, Liam Neeson ruled out doing Taken 3 after making Taken 2. And after seemingly declaring again that this was it, it looks like he's warming to the idea of Taken 4.
Chatting to Fox, he was asked whether this was doing to be the last one, and his answer firmly held the door open for more. "I think if audiences go and see it", which they did, "and they like these characters," which, well, let's not get carried away, "I mean I'd love to do something with Forest [Whitaker] again, and if it's in a Taken 4 scenario...great".
Can we crowdfund a really good Liam Neeson action movie instead, rather than encouraging more Taken films? Or maybe just have a quiet word with Forest Whitaker, if he indeed holds the key to this happening? Just a thought.
Anyway, Taken 4 in a couple of years' time sounds like a solid bet. Hurray.
