John Carpenter joins the Escape From New York remake as executive producer, as Fox picks up the rights...
NewsThe mooted remake of Escape From New York seems certain to happen now, as Fox has now won the bidding process for the rights to the project. And now, with The Picture Company on board to oversee the project, it's set to finally happen.
A remake of Escape From New York has been mooted for some time, but the difference here is that John Carpenter is involved this time around. He's attached to the project as executive producer now, and "will exert creative influence" over the film.
The plan remains to make this the first in a series of films, and the next job will be to put a script together, and hire a director.
As things stand, the project is "starting from scratch." There's also the question as to who will step into Kurt Russell's shoes and take on the role of Snake Plissken. Charlie Hunnam had been rumored beforehand, but there's no substance to his casting, according to Deadline's report.
More news on the Escape From New York remake as we hear it. There's still a long way to go on this one, but Fox will surely want a film for its money...
