The screenwriter for the Gremlins remake doesn’t sound optimistic at this point.
That long-rumored remake/reboot of Gremlins, which started to make some headway last year with the return of original screenwriter Chris Columbus as a producer, seems to have been cast into development hell once again.
That’s the word from the remake’s current screenwriter, Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows), who told EW that the project “just ran out of steam,” adding, “It’s one of those things where everybody got busy doing other things. It’s something I would love to come back to, but right now (original Gremlins producer) Steven (Spielberg)’s making two movies back to back and Chris Columbus is busy. We’re all taking a five-minute break on that.”
Grahame-Smith also noted that his take involved “a completely different cast of characters, but acknowledging the events of the first two movies,” dashing hopes that we might see Phoebe Cates on the screen one more time.
If you ask me, everyone can take as long a break as they want, since remaking/rebooting Gremlins never seemed like a particularly great idea. What do you think?
