The Blob

Did you even know you wanted another remake of The Blob? The man behind Con Air and The Expendables 2 is gonna give it to you.

News

"Beware of the blob it creeps, and leaps, and glides and slides across the floor, right through, the door, and all around the walls, a splotch, of blotch, be careful of the blob..."

Sorry. Got carried away right there in the first line of the article. But when you say The Blob, I think of three things.

1) The 1958 movie, a slice of b-movie perfection starring Steve McQueen and a bunch of people about 20 years too old to be convincing as teenagers.

2) The greatest theme song in movie history, that I quoted from above, and which I will gladly sing to you at length until you beat me about the head and shoulders with a broom.

3) The much better than you've heard 1988 remake starring Kevin Dillon, with a screenplay co-written by Frank Darabont, featuring some really terrific practical effects.

Anyway, we'll probably have to add a fourth thing to this list soon, as Simon West (Con Air, The Expendables 2) is taking on a remake. In a statement (thanks to Deadline), West said "With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

I don't think the Blob should ever be CGI, but that's just me. Interestingly, the producer of the original film, Jack H. Harris is on board as one of the executive producers for the remake. Principal photography should begin this summer.

Now, I wonder if they'll let me record the new version of that theme song...

Mike Cecchini is as serious as a heart attack about that song. Sing along with him on Twitter.
