A second draft of The Last Of Us' screenplay is complete, and a table reading has now taken place. But changes may be afoot.

Hmmm. One of the finest pieces of storytelling across any medium that we've enjoyed over the past few years has come in the superb videogame The Last Of Us.

The game, which follows a gruff, hardened survivor called Joel and a young girl named Ellie, sees the pair battling through a world that's been hit by a devastating pandemic. It's bold and quite brilliant, with a final act in particular that puts many, many movies to shame.

It's been known for some time that a movie version was in the works, and promisingly the director of the game - Neil Druckmann - is also the man overseeing the screenplay for the film.

In a new interview, Druckmann has now confirmed that he's completed a second draft of the script, and that a table read of it has taken place. He doesn't name the actors that took part in said table read, but the role of Ellie has been mooted for Game Of Thrones' Maisie Williams for some time now.

Druckmann added that the script is "pretty faithful to the game," but did add that "there are some big changes." He offset that by adding the "the tone and what the story's trying to say is pretty faithful to the game."

There's no word yet as to when to expect a The Last Of Us movie, but we just hope that the hardened edge that helped make the game so memorable will remain firmly in tact. More as we hear it...
