Paul Bettany talks about playing The Vision in more films than Avengers: Age of Ultron and the opportunities the part opens up.
NewsThe good thing about getting a job as a Marvel movie superhero—particularly if it’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—is that employment security is a fairly stable thing. Paul Bettany certainly thinks so as the Mortdecai actor is only too happy to talk about the Vision’s future past Avengers: Age of Ultron.
While chatting with News Australia, Bettany reflected on the opportunities that have opened up by playing the caped hero.
“I have never known if I have had a job six months out ever in my life,” Bettany said. “And now, I know that they have plans and I can be even more judicious about the stuff that I do outside of that work. I can wait for the right thing and feel really attached to it.”
If we had to guess, in a Marvel Universe that is still missing an oh-so amazing Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and an army of mutants, that it will be almost all hands on deck for 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. So, I would expect to see the Vision pop up there. And of course, he will be making an appearance in some capacity for the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, which will likely have everyone.
Bettany also talked about how he prepared for the role, implying that he had to catch up on the non-Iron Man films after getting the Vision gig.
Says Bettany, “I did a lot of research – and my research was watching all of the films. I realized they are so interlinked and I wanted to understand the universe I was in. So, I did and it was a really amazing, fun experience. Everybody made me feel really at home, and I have no bad stories – they are really funny people and really creative. I have never seen sets that big in my whole career. I have never seen set-pieces like it – we were in a set that felt like a town.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015. In the meantime, you can find everything we know right here.
