Jason Momoa talks what playing Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League means from a Hawaiian perspective.
NewsWhile it took many, many months for Warner Bros. to finally confirm that Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa is Aquaman—even though Zack Snyder was calling up radio stations in the interim to defend the fishy superhero’s good honor!—the actor is only too happy to discuss the role now.
Set to appear as Aquaman in next year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as two slated Justice League films and an Aquaman solo on the horizon, Momoa has a steady line of swimming ahead in a role that his perfect casting for still seems initially counterintuitive to some.
While chatting with The Daily Beast, Momoa said, “Aquaman is especially cool, because being a Kanaka Maoli—being Hawaiian—our gods are Kanaloa and Maui, and the Earth is 71 percent water, so I get to represent that. And I’m someone who gets to represent all the islanders, not some blond haired superhero. It’s cool that there’s a brown skinned superhero.”
Momoa continued to talk about what the future of character will look like for him when he said, “It’s awesome as an actor to know what your future is going to be, because I have children and I’ve busted my ass to put food on the table. It’s awesome knowing that I’m going to be in Justice League, because my son is the biggest Batman fan, and my daughter loves Wonder Woman. It’ll be cool for them to see me in something, because they’re not going to be watching Game of Thrones or Red Road anytime soon, but now they can see Daddy kicking ass in IMAX.”
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25, 2016. But in the meantime, you can check out Everything You Need to Know About Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice here.
