Justin Lin's new Star Trek film is apparently on the hunt for three new major female characters - and Bryan Cranston...
NewsThe next Star Trek film (known as either Star Trek 3 or Star Trek 13, depending on your preference) is slowly assembling its crew, and we've discovered over the past 30 days or so that Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) is to direct, whilst Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are penning the latest draft of the script. It's believed that Roberto Orci's story is no longer being used, although that's not been 100% confirmed.
So what's new, then? Well, the folks over at Film Dividerreckon they have some details on what we can expect.

Firstly, the plan appears to be to introduce three major new female characters to the current Star Trek screen adventures. One will be the captain of another Federation ship. Then there's going to be the President of the United Federation of Planets, too.
The third new character, though, will apparently be Doctor McCoy's ex-wife. Bones is played by Karl Urban in the current Star Trek films, and his ex-wife could be either Jocelyn Treadway or Pamela Branch, depending which way the screenplay goes. This seems to indicate that Bones will get a bit more screentime this time around as well.

Finally, there's the villain of the next Star Trek adventure. The production is on the hint for a male actor, with the villain "supposed to be Bryan Cranston-like." The site reports that Cranston has indeed had brief discussions about taking on the role in the next Star Trek, but that's as far as it goes right now.
None of this is anywhere near official, of course, and should be classed as rumor right now.
The next Star Trek film is due in cinemas in July 2016. The full story at Film Divider can be found here.
