Neil Burger is replaced by Marc Webb in the latest update from the Limitless TV adaptation…
NewsRemember when we had a huge flurry of film-to-TV adaptations to report on after Fargopopularized the idea of such projects? Well, now one those projects is beginning to move forward – the telly version of the Bradley Cooper vehicle Limitless.
Interestingly, the film’s director Neil Burger has now pulled out to focus on the pilot for Billions (a new programme on the Showtime network) instead. If there’s a motivation there beyond the cited ‘scheduling reasons,’ it’s being kept schtum.
As one of our commenters rightly pointed out last time we reported on this show, departures have been made from Burger’s film version (Cooper’s character Eddie Morra is now called Brian Sinclair, for starters). The show is about this character’s quest to use his ‘newfound drug-enhanced abilities to solve weekly cases for the FBI.’ We expect he might be re-cast, too.
Stepping into Mr Burger’s shoes? That would be (500) Days Of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, who will be directing the pilot episode of the new series.
This isn’t an altogether new experience for the director, who has previously squeezed drama pilot Lone Star, musical comedy pilot Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and workplace comedy Professionals into his busy schedule. Don’t take this news as a definite confirmation of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise's fate, then.
Burger stays on as a producer, alongside the film’s star Bradley Cooper and writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
If there’s anything else of interest surrounding Limitless, we’ll be sure to pass it on.
