The Purge 3 arrives in cinemas in 2016, with James DeMonaco again writing the script. But he's not committed to direct, reveals Jason Blum.

Producer Jason Blum has given an update on The Purge 3, and has revealed that James Demonaco - who's written and directed both movies to date - still may only be penning the new film.
Blum said that "I just read the newest script and we're going to start shooting relatively soon, and it's definitely a new chapter in Purge. It feels very new and hopefully James will direct it. He wrote it but he hasn't said for sure that he's going to direct it", Blum told Movies.com. That said, Blum is keen for him to do so.
The Purge 3 arrives in the summer of 2016.

As had been widely expected, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions are pressing ahead with another film in The Purge series.
The Purge 3 - as it's currently known - will take a little bit longer to get here though. Rather than the year gap between the first two movies, the third one is set for release on July 1, 2016. That gives returning writer/director James Demonaco twice as long to put this one together.
No further details are known of The Purge 3 yet (so we don't know if Frank Grillo is returning, for instance). But after The Purge: Anarchy - with a big nod to John Carpenter - took things outdoors, we'd be surprised if they went back inside again.
