Sony Spider-Man Spinoff Movies Still Alive?

By all accounts, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is now dead. Now that Spider-Man has hooked up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a guest spot in Captain America: Civil War, to be followed by a solo movie in 2017, it looks like the previous iteration of the franchise is gone, never to return. We naturally assumed that meant the end of Sony's planned Spider-Man spinoff movies were likewise finished. 

We might have been wrong. The Wall Street Journal sounds fairly certain that Drew Goddard's Sinister Six movie was still alive, although you can forget about that November of 2016 release date. Of all the Spider-Man projects, this was the one that sounded the most promising, and seemed the furthest along. 

But it might not be alone...

Varietyconfirms that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 isn't happening, but believes that some of Sony's other ideas still are. Specifically, the Venom solo movie and the continuously floated idea of a team-up movie involving some of the female supporting characters in Spidey's world. Neither of those projects ever sounded as well-defined as The Sinister Six, though, so this might still just be a matter of wishful thinking by Sony. I su
