Spider-Man Casting Details, Andrew Garfield Out

It seems that Andrew Garfield was offered the chance to stay on as Spider-Man, but declined the offer...

News

Well, the Andrew Garfield era of Spider-Man is over. It's a bit of a shame, as he definitely brought a little bit more swagger to the Spidey role than previous actors, although perhaps a little too much to his Peter Parker, but that's another story. But as details about the potential Marvel/Sony deal for Spider-Man began to emerge over the last few months, one thing was clear: Andrew Garfield was probably on his way out.

It looks like Marvel are looking to cast a much younger actor in the role this time around. The intention is for Spider-Man (whether it's Peter Parker or Miles Morales...but it's probably Peter Parker) to once again be firmly of high school age. While there's no official casting call out there yet, Varietyreports that names like Dylan O'Brien (Teen Wolf) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) are the types that Marvel and Sony are looking at to wear the webs this time.

Supposedly, Mr. Garfield left on his own terms, which is a good thing. The Daily Beast claims that the actor "opted out" of the role when given the option. But there are already other actors being considered for the part.

Keep in mind that Spidey is all but certainly appearing in Captain America: Civil War, which starts shooting this spring for its May 2016 release. Expect Spider-Man casting developments to happen quickly. I took a much more detailed look at the Marvel/Sony/Spider-Man situation right here.
