Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo have just entered the fight against the Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell in the new Starz series.
NewsStarz and Sam Raimi’s Ash vs. Evil Dead series spin-off has just added its first cast members besides, of course, Bruce Cambpell. And in the words of the greatest aging lothario of our times, “groovy.”
Ray Santiago (Meet the Fockers) and Dana DeLorenzo (Growing Up Fisher) will be joining Campbell in the straight-to-series Starz order, as first revealed by THR.
For the 10-episode season, Santiago will play Pablo Simon Bolivar, the loyal sidekick to an aged (but still shelf-stocking) Ashley Williams. The press release describes him as a Sancho Panza to Ash’s Don Quixote. DeLorenzo, meanwhile plays Kelly Maxwell, a woman with a past who in the midst of outrunning it finds herself in an even worse situation when battling the forces of Evil alongside Ash and Pablo. Together, they will form a makeshift family of sorts.
Ash vs. Evil Dead, which will be a half-hour comedy,shoots in New Zealand (like the Evil Dead remake) with the aim of premiering later this year. I personally hope that Jane Levy’s Mia makes a guest appearance to team up with the chainsaw-wielding hero.
Ash is the stock boy, aging lothario, and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terror of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons—personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
