50 Shades of Grey is finally in theaters. Not that we were exactly waiting for it. We took in the atmosphere in this Den of Geek video!
NewsBecause I’m sure you were as curious as we were, we went to the Fifty Shades of Grey premiere so you wouldn’t have to. Truthfully, I didn’t know what to expect from the opening night for the film adaptation of E L James’ sultry adult novel series. Would there be lines out the door? Would we be swarmed by a circus of leather-clad fetishizers and newfound erotic-fiction fans? Would any guys go stag to soft-core porn’s blockbuster party?
The answers came to us right away when we showed up at a mostly empty suburban New York theater. As moviegoers started to roll in for the theater’s four premiere-night showings, some were bashful about seeing Mr. Grey on the big screen. A couple of dudes were curiously there alone and declined comment. Others flat out lied to us and said there were going to see another movie. You're not sneeky, we saw you enter the theater...

There was a real sense of not wanting to get caught at the theater in the air. Almost a ‘if this movie was too hot, I don’t think I can control myself’ type feeling. Sitting in a porn theater is one thing, but going full-blown Paul Reubens in a public movie theater? That calls for a different type of bondage, right around your ankle.
