Jay Hernandez is in talks to star in the DC adaptation Suicide Squad alongside Jared Leto, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie.

News

With the casting of Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad announced earlier this month, it appears that the main roster of heroes (or should that be villains?) is complete for the David Ayer superhero movie, which includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and of course Jared Leto as the Joker. However, it appears that the Suicide Squad cast itself is not yet done being built.

The Wrap is now reporting that Jay Hernandez of Friday Night Lights is joining the movie all about the villains. While the role remains a mystery at this time, The Wrap speculated that he might be the Joker’s inmate at the start of the picture.

Ayer, who is no stranger to action movie ensembles like End of Watch, Sabotage, and Fury, is writing and directing the film about an elite group of DC Comics supervillains forced to do good. The film certainly already has plenty of pedigree with Leto coming off an Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club to play the Joker, and Robbie becoming the current Hollywood “It girl” after her memorable role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. And of course, Smith remains a studio favorite, even if his last few star vehicles did not prove as warmly received at the box office (Men in Black 3, After Earth).

Further, Oscar nominee and Tony winner Viola Davis remains in negotiations to play Amanda Waller while Jesse Eisenberg is speculated to reprise his role as Lex Luthor from next summer’s upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
