Chris Pratt's name has come up in connection with a new Indiana Jones movie. So has Steven Spielberg's.
NewsThis is an updated version of a story that ran on January 27th.
Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones? It could happen if Disney gets their way. There had been rumors of this floating around in the past, but this is by far the most concrete they've sounded. Now that Disney has the Indiana Jones rights, they're looking to give Indiana Jones the Star Wars treatment, and revive the franchise with a fresh series of films.
But a fresh series of films will need a fresh star cracking the bullwhip, since Harrison Ford looked awfully bored in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Their safest bet? The guy who led a far less tested franchise to victory in 2014 with Guardians of the Galaxy. That's right...Chris Pratt. Pratt himself recently describing the role as an "awesome opportunity." Well, it's not a denial.
What kind of shape could this franchise take? Would they pick up after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and get into some of Indy's adventures behind enemy lines during World War II? Maybe adventures set between Temple of Doomand Raiders of the Lost Ark? Certainly they wouldn't do prequels. Or would they...
We're not even close to Indiana Jones 5 just yet, but we had heard that there was already some chatter about it at Pinewood when Star Wars: The Force Awakens first started to ramp up production. We heard Janusz Kaminski's name mentioned as a potential director at one point, too. However, in a post so vague that it reads like self-parody, Deadline's Mike Fleming now reports that maybe Steven Spielberg would want to direct this movie that still has no script, no official star, or anything resembling a connection to reality.
For the record, we think rebooting this particular franchise is a particularly doomed affair.
