TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski looks like he's the man to bring Gran Turismo to the big screen...
NewsIt may not have burned up the box office in quite the way that its backers hoped, but the Need For Speed movie still did decent business last year. As such, Sony is advanced its plans for a Gran Turismo movie, which first surfaced back in 2013.
The Gran Turismo film was originally being penned by Alex Tse (who worked on the screenplay for Watchmen). However, it's now being reported that Joseph Kosinski - the director of TRON: Legacy and Oblivion - is set to join the project.
He's in early negotiations for Gran Turismo: The Movie, and if he does indeed sign on the dotted line, then he'll be overseeing a rewrite of the screenplay as well as directing the movie. The current plot sees a videogame player who becomes a racer for real, so we'll see if that survives the transition.
It's still quite early days for Gran Turismo, but with the Fast & Furious franchise generating huge income for Universal, rival studios are keen to find a racing series of movies for themselves.
