Here are the first images of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role of Edward Snowden, the subject of Oliver Stone's new film.
NewsLast month the subject of Edward Snowden took home the Oscar in the documentary feature category with Citizenfour. But this year, it looks like he could be competing for a narrative prize.
Indeed, Oliver Stone is continuing his recent U.S. history (as according to Oliver Stone) film series with Snowden, a politically charged movie about the controversial figure that leaked classified information about the NSA wiretapping on U.S. citizens. The result was that Snowden had to flee, of all places, to Russia.
Edward Snowden in the film is being portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and now we have our first look at the actor in the role. The cast also includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson, Timothy Olyphant, and Nicolas Cage.
Principal photography on the film is already underway. This will mark the next chapter in Stone’s vision of American history (with emphasis on the Stone) that already includes classics like JFK and Nixon. Hopefully, Snowden is closer to those films (though maybe with more accuracy) and less like his more recent entries, which include World Trade Center and W.
