The UFC fighter joins forces with the star of ‘The Raid’ in a new thriller.
NewsUFC juggernaut Ronda Rousey is going to team up with Iko Uwais, the star of the stunning The Raid and The Raid 2, in a new action thriller called Mile 22. According to Variety, the film will follow the relationship between a CIA field officer (Rousey) and an Indonesian police officer (Uwais) as they work together to defeat political corruption on an extreme scale – in other words, it kind of sounds like a plot outline for The Raid 3.
Peter Berg, director of Lone Survivor and, uh, Battleship, is on board to produce the film, but neither he nor anyone else is getting their name stenciled on the back of the director’s chair just yet. But Berg is excited about the project, saying, “I am a huge fan of what Gareth (Evans, director) and Iko did on both Raid films, and I’m very excited at the possibility of working with Ronda and Iko to create a film in the spirit of this new wave of combat cinema emerging from Indonesia.”

Rousey made her screen debut in The Expendables 3 last year, and while the charismatic beauty’s acting skills are yet to be fully ascertained, she has impressed enough studio folks to also land roles in the upcoming Furious 7 and Entourage. As for Uwais, his double duty as star and co-fight choreographer on the Raid films was nothing short of dazzlin, and led to him being offered a small but significant role in an under-the-radar film due out later this year called Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
We’ll keep tabs on this as The Raid 3– sorry, Mile 22– kicks and punches its way closer to production.
