Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police Documentary Trailer

The new trailer was released for Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police, a new documentary on the British pop-punk-prog hitmakers. The film is based on guitarist Andy Summers’ 2007 memoir One Train Later.

I believe it was David Lee Roth who said “the guy who wrote ‘De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da,’ he was talking to me.” That’s as good a summary for The Police as any. For a little while every little thing the British trio did was magic. Excellent musicians riding the new wave with bleached blonde hair and fake reggae accents, well, according to Elvis Costello, every breath they took became a hit. The rhythm section fought like brothers in a bunk bed too big without either of them, Sting was the breakout star, but it was Stewart Copeland’s band.

An obvious guitar geek, Andy Summers augmented his chords with breakout leads that bristled with precision. Listen once again to the guitar solo in “Driven to Tears,” it’s Robert Frippworthy. Summers played mixed modalities on a pimped out Telecaster. He also took pictures.

Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police tells the story of the band through Summers’ photography, archival footage, interviews and concert clips.

According to the official synopsis, "Can’t Stand Losing You follows Summers' journey from his early days in psychedelic ‘60s music scene, when he played with The Animals, to chance encounters with drummer Stewart Copeland and bassist Sting, which led to the formation of a punk trio, The Police.

"During the band’s phenomenal rise and its dissolution at the height of their popularity in the mid-80s, Summers captured history with his candid photographs.

"Utilizing rare archival footage and insights from the guitarist’s side of the stage, Can't Stand Losing You brings together past and present as the band members reunite, two decades later, for a global reunion tour in 2007."

Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Policepremieres on March 20 in select New York theaters and April 3rd in Los Angeles.
