Wolverine himself reckons an X-Men/Avengers crossover may now happen. Plus, a clue as to whether he's in X-Men: Apocalypse...
NewsFor some time now, the path of Marvel properties on the big screen has been clear. Sony controlled Spider-Man, Fox controlled Fantastic Four and X-Men, and Marvel Studios itself had everything else. However, earlier this year, Sony and Marvel announced their plan to work together on future Spider-Man projects, which in turn will see the webslinger join the Marvel cinematic universe.
That basically leaves Fox's Marvel films - which have been continually successful of late - away from the MCU.
Hugh Jackman, chatting to Yahoo, was asked about this, and specifically whether he ever saw the possibility of a big screen crossover between The Avengers and the X-Men. "Two years ago I'd have said you'd be a real optimist to think it'd ever happen," the incumbent Wolverine said.
"But weirdly now, I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen."
Just to temper expectations there, that's a long, long way from Fox and Marvel doing any kind of deal. But at least it sounds as though the door isn't as shut as it once appeared.
Whilst on the promotional trail for his new film, Chappie, Jackman also gave the strongest hints yet that he'll be appearing in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse movie. There's no confirmation here either, but when asked about his workload for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, he said to Colliderthat it was "one of those secrets", before ultimately avoiding the question. "I haven't read a script," he said.
Expect an announcement on that one way or the other shortly, however.
