Matt Smith joining Patient Zero, production begins

After being originally revealed in November 2014, Patient Zero is now definite, and has started production. The movie stars Matt Smith, Game Of Thrones' Natalie Dormer and John Bradley, and Stanley Tucci. The film will be shooting in and around London until mid-April. Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) is directing.

Matt Smith has already carved out quite a film career for himself since he departed Doctor Who. He's got Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, Lost River, under his belt, and has completed filming on the first of his three Terminator movies, Terminator: Genisys. He's currently shooting Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, where he's playing one of the lead roles. The excellent Burr Steers is directing that one.

After that? More zombies - or zombie-like creatures - by the looks of it, as he's joining up with Game Of Thrones' Natalie Dormer for Patient Zero. This one's being directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, who made the excellent The Counterfeiters (as well as the two Anatomy movies), and it follows the impact of a global pandemic. In this case, it's caused by a strain of rabies, which is the catalyst for a new species with a tendency towards a lot of violence. As the title suggests, the search is on for patient zero to help save the world.

Mike Le has penned the script for Patient Zero, and we suspect it'll be heading into production early next year.
