Marvel are auditioning the new Spider-Man, Avengers: Infinity War has directors, and Joss Whedon teases new Avengers...
NewsWell, things are about to move quickly for a certain segment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It now appears that the Russo Bros. are the stewards of the core of Marvel's movie destiny for the foreseeable future. Production on their Captain America: Civil Warbegins next week, and that's a movie that's going to define Marvel's film future for the next few years. As a result, nearly all of today's news deals with that.
For one thing, with Captain America: Civil War about to go before cameras, that means they had better find a Spider-Man pronto. It appears that they've at least started looking, and they're certainly going for a high school aged Peter Parker. Weeds' Mateus Ward reportedly auditioned for the role. He's sixteen. This doesn't mean he got the part, but it does confirm that they're looking for Peter Parker and not Miles Morales.
Furthermore, the Russo Bros., who have been linked to the directing job for Avengers: Infinity War Part One and Avengers: Infinity War Part Two for about as long as we've known the titles of those projects, are now inching even closer to closing that deal. Badass Digest sound certain that the deal is done, and we should expect an official announcement soon.
Finally, Joss Whedon is hinting that we're going to see Avengers who aren't in the trailers or named on the posters in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Check out the interview clip here...he teases it at the end:
Interviewer "Will we be seeing Marvel characters who aren't yet in the preview photos? Are we going to be seeing other Marvel characters that we've seen in other films or other parts of the universe?"Whedon: "Yes."
Who they might be remains to be seen. Could a post-credits scene give us our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange or Vin Diesel as Black Bolt? Might this be where we finally meet Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel? And a masked Spidey in a post-credits scene doesn't necessarily mean it has to be the actor who ends up getting the role for Captain America: Civil War. See how nicely that all looped back around?
