Fancy a TV show exploring the Earth under the rule of robots? Robot Overlords will be heading to the smaller screen in due course...
NewsIn UK cinemas today is Robot Overlords, a fun and tense family movie, set in a world that's been under robot occupation for three years. The film centres on a quartet of young performers, and it's a welcome and effective homage to the kind of family movies we got in the 1980s. Our full review is here.
And now we learn that more Robot Overlords is on the way. Whilst not ruling out future movie sequels, should the new film do well, director Jon Wright told us that "it's looking very likely that we're going to turn Robot Overlords into a high-end TV series."
"We've got a big company in the UK, who are going to produce it. And two big broadcasters: one in the UK, one in the US. So it'll be a pretty big budget, exploring the world of occupied robot Earth."
Wright wasn't naming names, but he added that there's a "very experienced TV writer attached" to be showrunner. Wright is hoping to direct a lot of the show too.
How far along is it? Signatures are on pieces of paper. And Wright confirmed that the TV show deal is independent of how well the movie does on its cinema release.
