"I was never thrilled" admits Joss Whedon, as he discusses when he learned the X-Men films were using the character of Quicksilver too...
NewsAhead of the release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron - which arrives May 1st - Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige have been chatting about the character of Quicksilver.
Quicksilver, after all, turned up in last year's X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and will be making his Marvel cinematic universe debut in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. And it's an odd situation, as the pair freely admit.
"It's a unique scenario," admitted Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' boss. "That's the only character where that could happen, and it happened," he noted. That's in reference to the rights, that allow Fox to use characters in the X-Men universe in its films. Quicksilver appears in both X-Men and The Avengers stories, and thus we're getting different interpretations in two different movie franchises.
Still, Joss Whedon was already deep into work on Avengers: Age Of Ultron when he learned that Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days Of Future Past planned to include Quicksilver as well. Evan Peters would play the character in 2014's X-Men movie, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson takes on the role in the Marvel cinematic universe.
"Months after I started, they were like, [Days Of Future Past] just changed Juggernaut to Quicksilver. I'm like, what?!" He added that "I was never thrilled."
"We knew it would be very different based on the various interpretations of the character through the comic. It may as well be different characters," Feige said.
The Marvel team seem content that their Quicksilver will be distinct, however. And we'll find out how Aaron Taylor-Johnson fares in just a few weeks' time...
