Danny Trejo confirms that he and Robert Rodriguez are working on Machete Kills Again...in Space this year.

News

However unlikely it seems, Machete might just kill again…and in space!

Despite Machete Kills grossing an anemic worldwide total of $15 million in 2013, Danny Trejo not only appears convinced that the fake trailer promise of a threequel, entitled Machete Kills Again…in Space, will soon become a reality, but that he and Robert Rodriguez will be making it later this year.

The Mexican he-man was chatting with Halloween Daily News when he said, “Robert and I are going to start to do Machete Kills in Space, so that’s going to be awesome.” Trejo followed up that comment by saying, “Absolutely. We’re going to be working on it this year.”

Machete Kills Again…in Space is a fake trailer that featured in Machete Kills. Modeled after the C-list Star Wars knock-offs that appeared during the late 1970s and early ‘80s (think 1978’s Starcrash), the faux promotional advertisement showed a retro-cheapie sci-fi aesthetic as Danny Trejo ran around with Michelle Rodriguez, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, and Alexa Vega. It is also implied that Mel Gibson would return as the villain (who is entirely masked, so don’t count on it), as well as Charlie Sheen as the U.S. president.

The Machete franchise itself is borne from fake trailers, as Machete (2010) was completed after an enthusiastic reception for a fake Machete trailer in 2007’s Grindhouse. However, Machete’s $44 million box office take also showed more enthusiasm than the 2013 reception.

We’ll keep you posted as Machete Kills Again…in Space nears launch-off. Below is the fake trailer for the film. Also, a tip of the hat to ComingSoon for bringing this to our attention.
