Reports suggest that a movie based on Play-Doh is in the offing, with Bridesmaids' Paul Feig lined up as director...
NewsWe're a bit late to this story, admittedly. But over the Easter break, it was reported that 20th Century Fox is in talks with Hasbro to make a live-action movie based on another of the toy giant's properties - this time, it's Play-Doh.
Yes, the gooey stuff we played with as kids could be heading to our local multiplex - and what's more, Paul Feig, who directed Freaks & Geeks, Bridesmaids, Heat and the forthcoming Spy, is said to be in the running to direct. Feig also has his Ghostbustersfilm in the works, of course, so we're guessing that a Play-Doh movie would have to be moulded around that project's schedule.
The success of Phil Lord and Chris Miller's The Lego Movie, which proved that you can make an adventure film with real heart from a toy property, is likely to be the driving force behind the Play-Doh deal.
But as Deadline points out, it isn't the only film of its type to emerge from Hasbro - we've already seen the Transformers franchise make a fortune, while the likes of G.I. Joe and even the low-budget horror Ouija (based on Hasbro's fun-for-all-the-family necromancy kit) have made healthy profits.
Oh, and there's a Jem And The Holograms movie on the way too. Her music's both outrageous and contagious.
Assuming the Play-Doh movie squeezes through the Hollywood system, can we suggest it bases the story around the Play-Doh Mop Top Hair Shop? We had hours of fun with that as kids.
Probably best not to call it Fuzzy Pumper, though, eh?

More Play-Doh news as it comes in.
