You think this is funny?
The Tribeca Film Festival announced that it will celebrate Goodfellas’ 25th birthday by showing a print remastered by Martin Scorsese himself.
The festival rounded up the usual suspects and is lining them up at the Beacon Theater on April 25th. Jon Stewart will be there to fucking amuse you. You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella. The showing will be followed by a conversation with the key stars and the outgoing Daily Show host. The movie will close the festival.
“I was so excited to learn that this picture, now 25 years old, would be closing this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. Excited and moved,” Scorsese said in a statement.
“It was an adventure to get it on screen—we wanted to make a movie that was true to Nick Pileggi’s book and to the life of Henry Hill and his friends, which means that we broke some rules and took some risks. So it’s heartening to know that Goodfellas has come to mean so much to so many people. It’s wonderful to see one of your pictures revived and re-seen, but to see it closing Tribeca, a festival of new movies, means the world to me,” he continued.
The classic gangster movie was based on the true-crime novel Wise Guy by Nicholas Pileggi. It starred Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino.
Scorsese remastered Goodfellas from a 4k scan of the original camera negative.
GoodFellas was nominated for Academy Award, including Best Picture and Best Director..
The GoodFellas 25th Anniversary Blu-ray and Digital HD comes out on May 5.
