It's being reported that Mariah Carey's to star in a Christmas-themed musical, with Brett Ratner aboard as producer...

News

Professional singer Mariah Carey is no stranger to the silver screen, having appeared in such films as The Butler, Precious, You Don't Mess With The Zohan and the 2001 psychological horror, Glitter.

Deadline is now reporting that Carey's fusing her two favorite pastimes with a new movie project, which will be set at Christmas.

Currently untitled, the top-secret film will deal with the theme of "how the power of music can transport you back in time to your truest and most authentic feelings."

And, indeed, transport us back to 1994 - the year when Carey dominated the charts with her biggest hit, "All I Want For Christmas Is You." With Carey starring and singing in the forthcoming festive movie, produced by Brett Ratner, a reprise of that chart-topper seems all but inevitable.

It'll be a heart-warming film for the winter months, we're sure, but a cynical part of us can't help wondering: isn't it 20 years late?

Mind you, if Carey's Chrimbo film is a success, there are all sorts of other 1994 songs and artists that could come back with films of their own. A movie based on Ace of Base's "The Sign," perhaps? Chaka Demus & Pliers' cover of "Twist And Shout?"

Or what about Tori Amos's The Cornflake Girl - a film about how the power of music can transport you back in time to your truest and most authentic breakfast cereal?

Hollywood, do call us if you're moved by any of these ideas.

More news on the Carey-Ratner-Christmas nexus as we hear it.
