In a change to his original schedule, Kevin Smith's set to make Mallrats 2 next and not Clerks 3 as originally planned...
NewsIt's not often that we hear of a building demolition significantly altering a director's plans, but that's exactly what's happened to Kevin Smith.
Smith's original schedule would have seen him direct a second sequel to the cult hit Clerks later this year. After that, he was planning to direct Mallrats 2, a sequel to his 1995 comedy, in spring 2016.
But Smith has since learned that the shopping mall where he plans to shoot Mallrats 2 is to be torn down within the next year or so - which means he's altered his filming schedule to compensate.
"...we were talking about initially shooting Clerks 3 this summer and then we were going to get to Mallrats in the beginning of 2016," Smith explained on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast. "And then it jumped into 2015, where we were going to shoot Clerks and then hopefully Mallrats before the end of the year. But now, based on a f-ing mall that we all dig that will be going away, the priority has become Mallrats. So the next f-ing movie I’m making is Mallrats 2."
Smith also reveals that he hopes to coax Ben Affleck back as Shannon Hamilton:
"No word on Batfleck yet… but it would be fun to see if we could get him."
The rest of the cast is, however, gradually being assembled. Last week, Slash Film revealed that Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker, Shannen Doherty, Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, Jeremy London and Stan Lee are all returning.
