Warner Bros. has reportedly sat down to talk with James Wan about directing the Aquaman movie!
THR reports that Warner Bros. has sat down for early talks with Australian director James Wan (Furious 7) about directing the Aquaman movie. Jason Mamoa, of course, is set to star as the sea-faring superhero. Boy, Wan has come a long way since Saw.
THR made it clear in their report that there is no offer on the table as of yet. The talks have been very preliminary.
What we do know for sure is that Wan's next project is The Conjuring 2, which starts shooting this fall. Also in question is a Furious 7 sequel. No sign whether Wan will return for another installment as of yet.
Aquaman is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2018, which probably doesn't leave Wan a lot of time to decide whether he can commit to the project or not. A blockbuster like this will undoubtedly take considerable time to make.
Wan definitely has options, especially since Furious 7 just made $392 million worldwide. Will he want to commit to another big production? Aquaman might be better for it.
For those of you who don't know, the script is still being developed. Warner Bros. hired Will Beall (Gangster Squad and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) to develop two separate scripts for the project. Beall and Johnstad are a real-life Suicide Squad on a mission to turn Aquaman into an A-lister. Who will come out alive?
