Star Trek 3 has cast Sofia Boutella, the femme fatale henchwoman in Kingsman: The Secret Service, for a lead role...
If you saw February’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, a lot probably stood out for you with that whacky trip back to Bondmania’s most gonzo heyday. But one element that caught everyone’s immediate attention was Sofia Boutella’s sword-legged henchwoman, a baddie that outdid what any Bond movie has produced in recent big screen villainy.
It would seem Paramount and Justin Lin took notice too since Boutella has been cast for a lead role in Star Trek 3.
What exact character Boutella has been cast in remains a mystery as Star Trek 3 seemingly continues to live in J.J. Abrams’ mystery box orbit where every announcement must be followed by a question mark. However, given that the script is still being worked on by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, maybe they’re still trying to figure that out themselves.
Boutella, a French-Algerian dancer and actress, had been known for her roles in music videos and Nike advertisement campaigns before landing the henchwoman sidekick role in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman where she high-kicked spies to their unmarked graves with her bladed feet. The role also had her playing well off of Samuel L. Jackson as the Kingsman head honcho baddie. It’s the kind of role one imagines could catch the attention of Lin (who directed four Fast and Furious films) and screenwriter/co-star Pegg (who co-wrote Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz).
Star Trek 3 warp-drives into theaters on July 8, 2016.
