The John Wick directors are making a superhero action movie as the Valiant Cinematic Universe begins to take shape.
NewsThe Valiant Cinematic Universe is coming, and now there's a plan. What the heck is a Valiant Cinematic Universe? Well, this will be a series of movies based on characters published by Valiant Entertainment, the stars of a line of superhero comics that's a little bit different than what Marvel or DC are offering.
For the record, Valiant is producing top-notch superhero comics at the moment, and you should check them out.
Anyway, the first four movies on the agenda are Bloodshotand Harbinger(who are getting two movies each). Then, we'll get a Bloodshot and Harbinger team-up movie for the fifth installment, known as Harbinger Wars. In case you doubt their seriousness, check out who they have involved:
David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, the directors of recent action movie classic John Wick are directing Bloodshot, which will have a screenplay Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) and Eric Heisserer. Matthew Vaughn and Jason Kothari are on board as executive producers. You can also expect this around 2017. Here's the official word on Bloodshot:
Brought back from the dead and infused with cutting-edge nanotechnology by private security contractor Project Rising Spirit, Bloodshot is a nearly unstoppable killing machine equipped with enhanced strength, speed, endurance, and healing.
“Valiant is one of the most successful publishers in the history of comics, and Neal is one of the best action producers in the business today. This is a formidable partnership that will bring two incredibly commercial franchises with global appeal together on the big screen,” said Sony Entertainment Motion Picture Group President Doug Belgrad in a statement. “The long-term plan that begins with Bloodshot will be a considerable priority for Sony in the months and years to come."
Harbingerhas no directors in place yet, but that should change soon enough, but Eric Heisserer is also writing this one. Harbingeris "centered on telekinetic teenage runaway Peter Stanchek and his recruitment into the mysterious Harbinger Foundation by secretive CEO and philanthropist Toyo Harada," and should appeal to folks who find the X-Men's continuity too irritating to deal with. There's no release window for Harbingeryet, but this will arrive after Bloodshot.
“Bloodshot and Harbinger are two of the great untapped franchises anywhere in comics,” said producer and founder of Original Film, Neal H. Moritz in a statement. “In partnership with Sony and Valiant, we look forward to building the next great generation of superhero films.”
“Sony Pictures and Neal Moritz are the ideal partners to bring the world of Bloodshot and Harbinger to life,” said Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani. “They understand exactly what makes these characters tick and the exciting potential that they hold. These films are just the first step in partnership with Sony to bring Valiant’s biggest heroes to new audiences worldwide.”
Other Valiant properties in development include Archer & Armstrong and Shadowman. More on this as we get it. We're hoping to see Quantum and Woody join the party, though.
