Better...stronger...faster...more expensive. The new Six Million Dollar Man reboot is on the go...
NewsMark Wahlberg will reunite with Lone Survivor director Peter Berg for a big screen adaptation of The Six Million Dollar Man TV series for Bob Weinstein and Dimension Films. Cyborgs are a little more expensive this year, though, so Steve Austin (not that one) will have to be The Six Billion Dollar Man in this version of the story. No word on whether we might see the Bionic Woman make an appearance, though.
Damian Szifron (who directed Wild Tales) will write The Six Billion Dollar Man. “I couldn’t be more honored and grateful," Szifron said in a statement. "Such a major challenge represents a great opportunity. The themes surrounding this beloved property allow for the creation of a memorable sci-fi actioner as well as a bold spy thriller. Expectations are high and I’ll do my best to deliver the strongest basis for an amazing cinematic experience.”
The concept and characters are based on Martin Caidin's 1972 novel, Cyborg, which then became a popular TV series as The Six Million Dollar Man. It ran for over 100 episodes, and spawned a spinoff, The Bionic Woman. Die Hard writer Stephen E. de Souza was one of the writers on the original TV series. He spoke a little bit about that in our interview with him, which you can read here.
