
Alert the Newsroom, Jeff Daniels is joining the Divergent movie series
NewsJeff Daniels, who played liberal’s favorite conservative newsman Will McAvoy on Newsroom, signed on to something a little smarter than Dumb or Dumber. The Purple Rose of Cairoactor is in final talks to join the Divergent franchise as it closes out its final films, Allegiant Part 1 and 2.
Daniels is in negotiations to play portray David, who heads the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. The government agency that created the post-apocalyptic societies of Divergent.
Lionsgate’s adaptation of the post-apocalyptic book series by Veronica Roth stars Shailene Woodley as Tris, a girl who would rather fight than conform.
Allegiant Part 1 will begin shooting in May. It is slated for a March 18, 2016 release date.
Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher and Pouya Shahbazian are producing the movies, with Part 1 slated for a March 18, 2016, release.
Daniels is also set to act up with Matt Damon in The Martian, a space rescue flick coming from Ridley Scott. The Martianlands on Nov. 25, 2015. Daniels will also portray former Apple CEO John Sculley in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming biopic of Steve Jobs.
