RoboCop will return to the screen, but this time in an internet-only series from Machinima.
NewsThere's a new RoboCopseries coming from Machinima, although this one has a couple of twists. For one thing, it sounds like it's formatted like a Cops-esque reality show.
No, really. Here's the official synopsis:
"Dead or alive, you're coming with me." OCP’s Security Concepts Division’s RoboCop program is back in an all-new, short-form limited web series, based on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s 1987 classic action film. RoboCop returns to Delta City where viewers ride along with the now standard-issue RoboCop officers as they respond to calls from dispatch. Tapping into current themes of the surveillance state, the series is shot from the first person point of view of the RoboCop officers’ heads up display, along with security cameras, dash-cams, and drones.
Well, it sounds like it has the topical aspect of the franchise well in hand. Hopefully it can nail that satirical tone that the original did so perfectly.
This also appears to be very much "RoboCop Classic" and it has nothing to do with the 2014 reboot. This might be the final blow for anyone hoping to see a sequel to that film. Then again, while it was better than expected, we haven't heard too many people clamoring for a new RoboCop 2.
We'll let you know when a premiere date is announced.
